Hanko is a popular destination for summer day trips, accessible by both train and bus.

For summer 2026, VR and OnniBus will provide exceptionally good public transport connections to Hanko, both by train and bus.

VR's summer trains to Hanko

  • VR will again operate a direct H-commuter train between Riihimäki and Hanko daily from June 22 to July 26, 2026.
  • The journey takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, and the schedule allows for about a five-hour day trip to Hanko.
  • It is still possible to travel from Helsinki to Hanko by train, but between June 27 and August 10, trains will be replaced by buses between Helsinki and Karjaa due to track work for the Espoo urban rail project; the Karjaa–Hanko commuter trains will operate normally.

OnniBus's new Hanko route

  • OnniBus will open a new direct route between Helsinki and Hanko starting June 1, 2026, for the entire summer season.
  • There will be two round trips daily from Monday to Sunday, with a journey time of approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
  • The buses are single-deck, and bicycles and pets are allowed on board.
  • The route passes through Espoo, Kirkkonummi, Inkoo, Karjaa, and Tammisaari, among other places, and passengers can board at all stops.
