The Hanko City Council approved a new strategy for 2026–2030. A few changes were made to the City Board’s proposal. The strategy remained largely in line with the original proposal.
Hanko’s vision is based on two key points:
1. Hanko is a community-oriented and friendly home port where life is good. The sea and nature are close to our hearts.
2. We make bold and sustainable choices that create expertise, jobs, and wonderful experiences in two languages all year round. Hanko is easy for everyone to visit and a great place to stay.
To support these key points, here are a few slogans included in the strategy.
1. In Hanko, the port and industry are in full swing every day – we are self-sufficient
2. Let’s make Hanko the environmental capital of the Baltic Sea
3. Healthy learning environments in the heart of nature – learning to be responsible
4. I’m heading to Hanko – toward events and culture!
Strategic priorities, cross-cutting themes, and value-based approaches
The strategy’s priorities are outlined at
1. People, well-being, and culture. ‘A bilingual home for a good life for everyone’
2. Vitality, livelihoods, and connections. ‘A sunny place is conducive to growth’
3. Nature, sustainability, and preparedness. ‘Peace of mind and the sea’
The strategy’s cross-cutting themes
1. Participation and community spirit. “The Hanko spirit is evident in everyday life: participate, make a difference, be inspired, and have fun”
2. Communication and branding. “Actions give rise to new (true) stories of Hanko residents”
3. Knowledge-based leadership and impact. “Knowledge guides, impact is real”
Value-based operating principles
1. We trust our team
2. Impactful responsibility
3. Active ownership policy
A strategy is a direction that makes choices consistent. (Editor's note)
