Ruutu’s original series *Murder in Hanko* is getting the sequel fans have been waiting for, with the second season premiering on July 1.
In the new season, Ruben Waara (Matti Ristinen) runs the renovated Villa Helen guesthouse with his beloved Helen (Inka Kallén). However, their happiness comes to an abrupt end when Helen suddenly goes missing.
Vera Waara’s (Mimosa Willamo) summer also gets off to an unfortunate start. The Hanko Police Department is facing closure, her teenage son Aaro (Kalevi Merilahti) is driving her up the wall at home, and things are depressingly quiet on the romantic front.
The Hanko Casino has a new owner, and Vera’s ex, Janne (Aku Sipola), has been hired to help with the grand opening alongside his friend Nort (Karim Rapatti). The opening takes a grim turn when the body of a former hockey player is found on the beach. It soon becomes clear that the death has a surprising connection to a cash-in-transit robbery that took place in Norway.
The second season features many familiar characters, played by the aforementioned actors as well as Anu Sinisalo, Ville Myllyrinne, Joonas Kääriäinen, Oona Kare, Erkki Saarela, Eino Heiskanen, Antti Jaakola, Ylermi Rajamaa, and Renée Böök.
The lineup also includes some well-known guests, such as Kai Vaine, Marjaana Maijala, Jarkko Lahti, Sari Havas, and Tommi Korpela.
The series is based on the characters from Matti Remes’s best-selling Ruben Waara novels, and the plot twists in the new season are inspired by the books *Regatta*, *The Norwegian Girlfriend*, and *The Deadly Gift*. However, the series also features surprising twists even for viewers who have read the books.
The second season is directed by Aleksi Mäkelä, and the writing team includes Eriikka Etholén-Paju, Antti Pesonen, Markus Mäkelä, and Mikko Peltotupa. The series is produced by Banijay Finland Oy, and the international sales agent is Banijay Rights.
Season 2 of the series "Murder in Hanko" premieres on Ruutu for Ruutu+ subscribers on July 1, 2026. A new episode will be released every Wednesday.
