The first main concert in the "Hanko Soi" summer concert series, featuring bright, expansive music performed on the oboe, strings, and piano.

At the midsummer concert, the oboe’s piercingly clear sound and the characteristic brightness of Mozart’s music resonate with the earliest rays of the sun in the cycle of the seasons. The Oboe Quartet and Schumann’s hopeful, expansive, and human oboe works are contrasted by Josef Suk’s dramatic piano trio. However, the Czech composer’s work also contains flashes of light, and the swaying movement of the second movement brings to mind barcarolle—or boat song—music. Dvořák’s serene Waldesruhe (“Forest Peace”) paints a picture in which the sun’s light is filtered through the canopy of leaves into a green hue. This is the kind of music that resonates in the soul when watching the Midsummer sunrise on the southern cliffs of Hankoniemi!
