Guided Tour of the "Shards" Exhibition

FT Jan Fast serves as a special guide for the exhibition “Fragments of the World War: Hanko 1941–1944.”
In March 1940, Hanko was ceded to the Soviet Union as a naval base under the terms of the Winter War peace treaty. All Finns were evacuated from Hanko, and the Soviet Union stationed approximately 27,000–30,000 soldiers in Hanko, along with a total of about 28,000–40,000 residents, including family members who accompanied the soldiers and other civilians.
When Soviet forces fortified Hanko, the Finns built their own line of defense around Hanko.
Jan Fast, Ph.D., launched the Hanko 1941–1944 project in 2018. The aim of this project is to study the wartime events on the Hanko Peninsula from a multidisciplinary perspective rooted in conflict archaeology.
