A magnificent old lighthouse

BENGTSKÄR

Come and experience the more than 100-year history of the Bengtskär Lighthouse on a cruise aboard the M/S Summersea!

The absolute highlight of cruises from Hanko is a visit to the Bengtskär Lighthouse. The light of this lighthouse—the tallest in the Nordic countries—was first lit in December 1906, and it rises an impressive 52 meters above sea level, so you can spot it from a distance as you approach the island. Throughout its history, it has weathered many dramatic periods, including both world wars, and has many interesting stories to tell.

Bengskär is part of the municipality of Kemiönsaari and is located on the outermost islet of the Archipelago Sea, 15 nautical miles—or just about 25 kilometers—southwest of Hanko. The lighthouse was opened to tourists in 1995 and has been a very popular tourist destination ever since. In addition to the lighthouse itself, during the day you can also admire the island’s ruggedly beautiful nature, enjoy a treat at the café, and visit the small museum, souvenir shop, and chapel.

The Bengtskär cruise is an integral part of Hanko’s summer attractions, so come aboard our M/S Summersea to discover the lighthouse’s eventful history. During the trip, you can purchase refreshments, souvenirs, and snacks from the ship’s cozy bar, and spend your time admiring the scenery on the spacious sun deck. The price of the trip includes a delicious salmon soup served on the outbound leg. The ship has 148 passenger seats and 90 dining seats.
